The Saturday Math

What a year of doing it yourself actually costs.

Not in dollars. In Saturdays. Here's the arithmetic most homeowners never run.

0 Mowing weeks a year A Hampton Roads growing season runs roughly late March into November. That's about thirty cuts if you never skip one.
0hrs Per weekend, average yard Mow, trim, edge, blow the driveway, bag the clippings, clean the deck, put it all away, wash up.
0 Hours handed back Nearly two full work weeks a year — plus the mulch weekend, the aeration rental, and the fall cleanup you keep postponing.

Add the mower payment, the string trimmer, gas, blades, the trip to the dump — and the two Saturdays a year you lose to mulch alone. See the real cost breakdown

What we do

Five programs. One crew that shows up.

Most customers start with the year-round package and never think about their yard again. The rest is there when the property needs more than a mow.

Most popular

Year-Round Full-Service Lawn Care

The flagship, and what most customers are on. One monthly rate, twelve months of coverage, nothing for you to schedule or remember.

See everything included
  • Weekly mowing, trimming, edging and hard-surface blow-off in season
  • Bi-weekly or as-needed service through the off season
  • Spring mulch with pre-emergent weed preventer, plus bed weeding
  • Bush trimming and winter cutbacks as needed
  • Fall cleanup, plus aeration and seeding for fescue lawns
  • 10% off retail price on every other job we do for you

Commercial Grounds

Restaurants, apartment communities, hotels and office parks. Mowing and edging on a fixed schedule, plus aeration, fertilization, weed control, irrigation checks and pest control — so the first thing your customer sees is the right thing.

Commercial programs

Bush & Shrub Trimming

Shrubs shaped to their own bloom cycle instead of sheared on a schedule — because an azalea cut in March is an azalea that won't flower. Plus winter cutbacks, bed edging and full debris haul-off.

Trimming & cutbacks

Sod Installation

Tiff Way Bermuda, Zoysia and Fescue, installed on a nine-step process — kill off what's there, grade, amend the soil, lay tight, roll it in. A finished lawn in a single day, then a watering schedule you actually follow.

A new lawn in a day

Drainage Solutions

Open French drains that collect saturated ground, enclosed solid-pipe systems that move water from a downspout or sump to a safe outlet, plus swales, grading and permeable pavers.

The year-round system

A lawn isn't a summer project.

The reason most Hampton Roads yards struggle is timing — pre-emergent goes down two weeks late, aeration never happens, and by June the crabgrass has already won. Here's what we're doing on your property in each season, and why.

Spring Summer Fall Winter
Spring March – May

The season that decides your summer.

Almost every weed problem people call us about in July was won or lost in March. Spring is front-loaded on purpose.

01Pre-emergent, on timeApplied with the spring mulch before soil temperatures hit the mid-fifties — the window when crabgrass germinates in coastal Virginia. Two weeks late and it does nothing.
02Fresh mulch and bed weedingBeds get cleaned out, edged and topped. Mulch holds moisture through the July heat and keeps the beds from reseeding themselves with weeds.
03Weekly mowing beginsOnce growth kicks in, we shift to your fixed weekly day — mow, trim, edge, blow off every hard surface before we leave.
04Shrubs shaped upBushes trimmed back into shape after the winter, before they put on new growth.

“I couldn't be happier with the service from Extra Mile Lawn Care! They truly live up to their name. My lawn has never looked better. It's consistently manicured, striped perfectly, and they always make sure the sidewalks and driveways are [clean].”

“Had to go on a deployment and couldn't mow the grass obviously so I called them up and they came out that week. They trimmed all my weeds and bushes along with making my lawn look amazing! I have been using them for almost a year now.”

“Garrison and the crew were fast and efficient! He took the time to explain the process and what we needed to do to care for the sod. We are very pleased with our new lawn!”

Coverage here is really about routing, not distance. If your street sits near an existing route, adding you is easy — if it doesn't, we'll tell you straight rather than promise a service day we can't hold.

Straight answers

The questions we actually get asked.

Our monthly full-service package costs meaningfully less than buying each of those services à la carte through the year. You pay one fixed amount every month — the same in July when we're there weekly as in January when we're not — so the cost is predictable and there are no surprise invoices after a big cleanup or mulch drop.

No — we can't accommodate one-time mow requests. Starting service requires a minimum commitment of four consecutive mowing visits, but there's no annual contract. The program is built around caring for a lawn continuously, which is what actually produces a healthy lawn.

No. Our crews run a set route, respect your property, and complete the work efficiently whether you're there or not. Most of our customers are at work when we come through.

Your lawn is serviced on the same day each week, determined by the neighborhoods our crews are routed through. The time of day can shift depending on the route, but the day stays consistent so you always know when to expect us.

Light rain doesn't stop us — we mow through it. We avoid excessively wet conditions because mowing saturated turf rips roots and leaves ruts. When we hold off for weather, your lawn picks back up on its regular schedule as soon as conditions allow.

In spring and fall, water about twice per week. In summer, increase to three or four times per week. Adjust down after heavy rain — coastal Virginia can deliver a week's worth of water in one afternoon storm. Water deeply and early in the morning rather than lightly and often.
